sketchery
Drawing underpins everything I do, even in my most abstract work. What I call sketchery comprises pencil drawing, mark-making, collage and paint experiments, colour notes and more. It’s where I pull apart my subject matter and begin reshaping it through my own vision, often by distorting or reworking it.
This groundwork isn’t confined to a sketchbook - it can merge into different materials or even digital form. A sketchery session often arrives like an itch I have to scratch: I’m compelled to dissect a subject through fast, focused work, sometimes drawing over drawings, until I feel I’ve shed a layer of exploration. These pieces act as immediate reference points, highlighting what pulls me in and what I want to persue further. The works shown here are generally not for sale, as they form the working backbone of my studio practice.
